Barbara Ann
Spainhour
July 6, 1933 – September 21, 2020
On September 21, Barbara Ann Spainhour of Winfield, KS, went to be with her Father in Heaven at the age of 87 years.
Barbara was a proud graduate of THE University of Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and was a gifted artist. There she met the love of her life, Con, husband of 65 years. In addition to raising her very active family, Barbara was a member of the Kansas Watercolor Society. Barbara started the Volunteer Services division at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital and after the family moved to Winfield, Kansas, she became the Director of Volunteer Services for ten years at William Newton Memorial Hospital. Barbara loved bringing both young and old community members into both hospitals to serve. She served as the President of the Kansas Association of Directors of Volunteer Services. She was a beloved member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter HK of Winfield. Con and Barbara are members of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield, Kansas.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Con; children: Sara (Robert Jones); Julia (Rebecca Floyd); Elisabeth (Regis Walsh); Kathryn (Russell Neuenschwander); Martha (Scott Lehner); John (Jodi); Sam (Cari); and Suzanne (Brian Gentry); and sister, Joleen. Barbara "Granny" will also be lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren: Meghan, Kurt, Amanda, Wyatt, Grant, Kyle, Alec, Chelsa, Kristen, Ben, Katie, Arin, Rebekah, Riley, Anna, and Paul; 5 great-grandchildren: Jesse, Fiona, Will, Jericho, and Charles.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Carrie Beers; siblings William, Max, Leslie, and Lynn; and a grandson, Con Walsh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, September 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Trinity Lutheran School or to RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
