Obituary

ZONA C. STOUT, 86, of Clearwater, Kansas, and former Atlanta, Kansas resident, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 1, 2011 at the Clearwater Retirement Community Inc.

Born on September 23, 1924 in Atlanta, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred Seth and Melvia (Yates) Couch. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta and graduated from Atlanta High School in 1942. Zona attended Pittsburg State University for a year and received her teaching certificate. She taught in the Omnia, Kansas school district for a year.

She was united in marriage on July 10, 1944 to George Aden Stout in Douglass, Kansas. The couple made their home in Atlanta where she was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. In 1970, she began employment at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center where she was a nurses aide. Zona later became a medication aide and retired in 1987. She later went back to work part time and was a transportation aide. Mr. Stout preceded her in death in 1972.

She was a member of the Clearwater Evangelical Free Church and had been a member of the Atlanta Christian Church for over 50 years. Zona helped with the Atlanta 4-H Polo club when her children were young. Her hobbies included all kinds of handwork including quilting, embroidery and sewing. She had crocheted blankets for all of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and traveling.

Her daughters: Virginia Clines and husband Jerry of Chanute, KS; Velma Skinner and husband Jack of Clearwater, KS; Betty Medlock and husband Ron of Raleigh, MISS; Nancy Pim and husband Randy of Trafalgar, IND; and Waunita Colvin and husband Charles of Thayer, OK;
Her brother: George Couch of San Diego, CA;
Her 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl and Orcel Couch; and her sister, Zoretta Schultz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2011 and the family will greet friends during that time.

A memorial has been established in Zona's name for the Clearwater Retirement Community. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
