Wonder "Joy" Johnson, 99, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 1, 2021, at her home.

Born April 16, 1922, in Claremore, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Trook) Palmer.  She was raised and received her education in northern Oklahoma and graduated from Davenport High School in Oklahoma in 1938.  After high school, she married Paul Davis.  To this union, a son was born.  The couple later divorced.  Joy worked for a short time at Beech Aircraft and later, the abstract office in Winfield.

Joy was united in marriage to Cecil Johnson on August 6, 1950, in Winfield.  The couple made their home on their farm in Dexter.  Joy was a dedicated homemaker, helping Cecil on the farm and raising their children.  Joy was also a caretaker for her and Cecil's parents.  Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on March 23, 2008.

She was a member of Dexter Baptist Church.  She enjoyed gardening in her flower garden, sewing, and caring for her grandchildren.

Her family includes her daughters, Cecelia Whitmore of Winfield; Jo Williams and husband, Leon of Dexter; Gay Thompson and husband, Craig of Winfield; Cindy Johnson of Kingston, AR; and her 24 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joy was preceded in death by a son Daniel "Lee" Johnson, a daughter-in-law Jane Johnson, two sons-in-law, Mike Knight and Kent Whitmore, two brothers, Archie Palmer and Floyd Palmer, and two sisters, Helen Heilig and Ina Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 3, 2021, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.  Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M.  The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Joy's name for Harry Hynes Hospice.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
