Obituary

Win L. "Lee" West, 87, died December 29, 2014 in Winfield, Kansas.

Born October 22, 1927 in Sullivan, Illinois, he was the son of James and Lettie (Fortner) West. Win was the youngest of 15 children and grew up on a farm in the Sullivan area.

Lee joined the United States Navy in 1945 at the age of 17 and served nine years between then and 1954. In 1954, Lee enlisted in the United States Air Force and he retired from the Air Force in 1969. He worked different jobs in Albuquerque, New Mexico then moved to Winfield in 1980. He worked for Gordon & Piatt for nine years before retiring in 1989.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Lee was a life member of the American Legion Post #10. He served as Adjutant for several years for the Post and the 3rd District American Legion. He was also a member of the USS Cacapon Reunion Association where he reminisced with his friends from the Navy.

He was married to Bernice Schroeder. They later divorced. He married Loydene White Wolfe in 1979 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, 13 brothers and sisters, grandson, Daniel Cox and great grandson, Peter Aaron Farless.

He is survived by:

His 27 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; and
His sister: Eva Harrington of Nacogdoches, TX.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A Memorial has been established in Mr. West's name for the American Legion Post #10 Boys State Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
