Obituary

WILMA J. BYNUM,86, of Dwight, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas.

Born on June 24, 1926 in rural Oxford, Kansas, she was the daughter of James Aaron and Willa Brooksie (Shaffer) Madison. She was raised and received her education in Oxford where she graduated from Oxford High School in 1944. Wilma attended Junior College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She also attended Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Wilma worked at McClellans and Woolworths in Wichita as a young lady.

She was united in marriage to Walter Lester Bynum on January 16, 1977 at the Tisdale United Methodist Church. The couple made their first home in Winfield and owned and operated Bynum's Paint, Wallpaper & Hobbies Company. She worked in the Cowley County Clerk, District Court and County Superintendent offices. They resided in Council Grove, Kansas for several years where she was employed at the Farms and Drovers Bank retiring in 1988. They moved to Dwight, Kansas in August of 1998. Mr. Bynum preceded her in death on September 5, 1999.

Wilma was a member of the Dwight United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a Thrift Store representative in Dwight County. Wilma enjoyed needlework, sewing and growing culinary herbs.

Her family includes:
Her stepdaughter: Norma Lee (Bynum) West of Dwight, KS;
Her brother: James Madison of Winfield, KS;
Her step-grandchildren: Susan West McClacherty and husband James of Topeka, KS; and Katherine Leslie West of Kansas City, MO;
Her step-greatgrandchildren: Staten James McClacherty, Katelynn Leslie Wilms and Cameron Evan McClacherty.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Madison, Harold Madison and Loren Madison; and her sister, Jenny Cole.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Dwight United Methodist Church in Dwight, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 13, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Tisdale Cemetery east of Winfield.

A memorial have been established in Wilma's name for the Dwight United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
