Obituary

Willis "Winston" Ash, 81, of Winfield, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2020 at William Newton Hospital.

Born October 8, 1939 in Pajarito, New Mexico, he was the son of Joe and Ollie (Hester) Ash.  Winston graduated high school and attended college for a short time before enlisting in the United States Navy.  He served his country on the USS Mackenzie in Vietnam and was honorably discharged after four years.

Winston was a collector of many things and liked working with his hands through carpentry work and, in his later years, keeping up the garden at the Kansas Veterans Home.  He thoroughly enjoyed reading and never stopped trying to learn.  Winston was especially inventive when it came to activities and toys for his children.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynell Miyao of Hawaii; Tanya Dobosz-Erickson of Wisconsin; his son, Daniel Ash of Hawaii; his sisters, Wanda Noland of New Mexico; Alice Pietzsch of Texas; Jennie Ash of Arizona; Peggy Windebank of Texas; and Rosalie Duncan of Kansas; his brother, Clinton Ash of Kansas; his five grandchildren: Chase, Rhiley, Kendric, Stone, and Rainn; and his two great grandchildren: Kaiya and Khyzen.

Winston is preceded in death by his parents.

A family held memorial service for Winston will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at His Helping Hands, 1441 E 37 th St. N., Wichita, KS 67219.  Local arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.
