Speer

William A. "Bill" Speer, 85, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, June 25, 2022 at his home.
Born November 7, 1936 in a pasture east of Winfield, he was the son of Howard and Violet (Rowe) Speer. He was raised and received his education southeast of Winfield, and graduated from Winfield High School in 1955. Beginning at a young age, Bill worked alongside his father on the family farm. As he got older, he continued farming, cowboying, working in the oil fields, and truck driving.
He was united in marriage to Susan Feagins on February 14, 1979 in Udall, Kansas. The couple made their first home on the family farm east of Winfield. In 1989, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and opened Susie's Country Store. Bill enjoyed woodcrafting, and making custom furniture that was sold out of the store. Bill and Susan relocated Susie's Country Store to Winfield in 1992 and made their home in Dexter. Bill continued working off and on in the oil fields until retiring in 2016.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church for many years and recently became a member of the Dexter Christian Church. In addition to woodworking, he enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, fishing, and telling stories.
His family includes his wife Susan Speer of Dexter; his sister, Eileen Roessler of Bentonville, AR; his children, Clifton Speer and wife, Dee Dee of Okmulgee, OK; Lisa Pipkin of Wellington; James "Charles" Short and wife, Angie of McKinney, TX; Rachal Chambers and husband, Lin of Clearwater; his grandchildren, Shayd, Joely, Dagan, Nichole, Jason, Connor, Corey, Garrett, Dylan, Dalton, Jordan, and Kylinn; and his great grandchildren, Dustin, Sadie, Caden, Pax, and Nora.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a sister Judy Ginder and a daughter Melissa Speer.
The family will hold memorial services at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Dexter Christian Church. A visitation and viewing will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in William's name for the Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
