Obituary

William Eugene McCurdy, 66, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, August 3, 2018 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center.

Born June 23, 1952 in Oakley, Kansas, he was the son of William Eugene and Bonnie Jean (Miller) McCurdy. He was raised and received his education in Wichita and Scott City. He then attended Garden City Junior College and later Wichita State University. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy on February 12, 1973 and proudly served his county as an Airman Apprentice and Aviation Metalsmith during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1974.

He was united in marriage to "the girl next door" Dorothy Sue "Dotti" Hicken in 1976. The couple made their home in Wichita. Bill worked as a pet store manager as well as a welder for Koch Engineering for many years. He also worked at WW Grinder and as a vet for Brookover Cattle Company. Bill worked until his muscular dystrophy got too bad and he became disabled in 1994.

Bill was a Christian man who always put God first. He was an Elder at Victory Baptist Church in Haysville until the church was destroyed by a tornado in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed model trains, collecting M&M memorabilia and anything history related. He loved to help others, enjoyed reading and weather facts. Bill especially loved all things family related, animals and Bible history.

His family includes his wife Dotti McCurdy of Wichita; his daughters, Meghan Lynn McCurdy of Wichita and Morgan Faye McCurdy of Wichita; his mother Bonnie Flickinger of Hutchinson; his sisters, Brenda L. Flickinger Barr and husband, Bradley of Douglass and LaRhonda J. Flickinger Clore and husband, Roger of Park City; and his grandchildren, Melissa F. McCurdy, Christian W. McCurdy, and Julia G. McCurdy all of Wichita.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William McCurdy, step-father, Gene Flickinger and grandparents, Gilbert and Faye McCurdy.
