Obituary

Mr. William E. Lockyear, 88, of Forsyth, Missouri, died Friday, March 18, 2016 in the Forsyth Nursing and Rehab Center.

William Eugene Lockyear was born Saturday, March 17, 1928 in Winfield, KS to Dick and Juanita (Yount) Lockyear. He was raised and attended school in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in the Class of 1946. After finishing school, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served as a Seaman Apprentice and was assigned to Printers School Naval Tech Training Center, Memphis, TN. Bill was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the Honorable Service Lapel Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1948. After his military service, he returned to Winfield where he was employed by Binney & Smith Crayola manufacturing plant. He began as a floor worker and worked his way up to plant manager.

In the late 1960's he met Sharon Clark in Winfield, and they were married June 24, 1971 in Miami, OK. Bill retired in 1984 from Binney and Smith after 32 years. He then opened Two-Guys Mower Service in Winfield which he operated for eight years. He and Sharon moved to Shell Knob in 1996 and later to Forsyth.

Bill was intelligent, witty, funny and very meticulous about his yard. He constantly kept busy either at home or with the Masons, Twenty-Five Year Club of Binney & Smith, quail and pheasant hunting, tennis and bowling. In his quiet times he watched the Jayhawks, Yankees and Kansas City Chiefs on TV. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and friend to all. He was of the Protestant Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lockyear of Forsyth, MO; four sons, Howard Lockyear of MT. Vernon, WA, Scott Lockyear of Emporia, KS, Monty Lockyear and wife Kerri of Des Moines, IA; two daughters, Cindy Burkett and husband, Mike of Marietta, GA, Lori Applegate and husband, Kirk of Kissee Mills, MO; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ernie Desbien and Betty Sutherland.

Graveside memorial services and Military Committal Honors will be held at Highland Cemetery on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
