Obituary

William L. "Bill" Morris, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, December 8, 2014 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born August 29, 1927 in Girard, Kansas, he was the son of William L. and Mary (Pulford) Morris. He was raised in Girard and attended Girard Public Schools, graduating in 1945. He then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan from 1946 to 1948. He served in the United States Navy, first from 1945 to 1946, and again from 1950 to 1951, both times in the Pacific Arena. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his service in Korea.

Bill was united in marriage to Evelyn Reith on October 12, 1952 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hepler, Kansas. He went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked as a Lineman, Division Lineman, and Communication Maintainer. He worked in many location from Chicago, Illinois to Galveston, Texas. In 1968 the family moved to Winfield, Kansas. In 1987 Bill retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 35 years of service. After retirement Bill and Evelyn enjoyed travel and camping. He was also a driver, and a member of the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels.

Bill was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post # 10 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3544, both in Winfield. He was also a member of Unit 25 National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and the Wichita Chapter of The National Railway Historical Society.

His family includes:
His wife: Evelyn of Winfield;
His son: Terry Morris and wife, Cathy of Derby;
His daughter: Tracy Morris and husband, Dave Dillbeck of Shawnee;
His grandchildren: Keenan Morris; Kaley Morris Pippen; and Angela Dillbeck Regier.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. The family will greet friends on Friday evening, December 19, 2014, from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. They will also greet friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Saturday December 20, 2014.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials in Mr. Morris' name for the American Legion Post # 10, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544, and the Honor Flight. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
