William "Willie"
K. Tuttle
February 23, 1952 – October 30, 2023
William K. "Willie" Tuttle, 71, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born February 23, 1952, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, he was the son of Kermit and Marjorie (Detlefsen) Tuttle. He was raised and received his education in Gering, Nebraska, graduating from Gering High School in 1970.
He was united in marriage to Carla Bush on August 25, 1973, at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Willie began his career with Farmland Industries at the Scottsbluff Refinery. In 1982, he transferred with Farmland Industries to the Winfield Pipeline Division, where he remained for over 20 years until beginning his career as an Insurance Agent. Willie served the Winfield community as an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance for nearly 25 years. He was also an avid entrepreneur, starting several businesses including Lawn Doctor, T&T Sprinklers, T&T Mini Storage, Winfield Mini Golf and Tropical Sno.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winfield, where he was part of the United Methodist Men. He served on the Church's Board of Trustees and was Chairman many times. Willie was a very active member of the Winfield community, with memberships in Winfield Rotary from 2000-2023 and was also a member of the Winfield Lions Club. He served the Winfield Chamber of Commerce; including on the Board of Directors from 2006-2011, the executive board, was Board Chairman in 2010, and as a Chamber Ambassador from 2008 to 2023. He enjoyed serving his community and was a tremendous asset to Winfield.
Willie's favorite hobbies were spending time with family and his 8 grandchildren, working, and serving others. He always had multiple projects going whether at home, the office, the shop, a customer's, or a friend's house. Dozens of Winfield youth worked for one of Willie's businesses, alongside Willie and his sons. Willie mentored so many, teaching a great work ethic, and how to do the job right the first time. He prided himself on knowing how to do everything, or at least "knowing a guy" that did. Willie always had a smile, and often a practical joke or two to share with his friends…he was a friend to everyone he met.
His family includes his wife Carla Tuttle of Winfield; his children, Brian Tuttle and wife, Sarah of Overland Park; Laura McPherson and husband, Justin of Winfield; Brandon Tuttle and wife, Jennifer of Owasso, OK; his sister Patti Kohl and husband, Harvey of Cheyenne, WY; his brother Greg Tuttle of Mitchell, NE; and his grandchildren, Emma, Lauren, Jones, Barrett, Abram, Jackson, Miles, and Leighton.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his brother Don Tuttle.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 3, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials have been established in Willie's name for the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation and for the William K. Tuttle Memorial Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
