William Dewayne Hilderbrand, of Udall, Kansas, also known as "Bill", "Sonny", "Dewayne", and "Buck" went home to our Lord, Saturday morning, August 27, 2022 at home in Udall. He was born on February 11, 1939, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He spent his childhood in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma in such colorful places as a house known as "Satan's Palace" and "Big Cabin."
He graduated from Labette County High School in 1957, with an interesting and often hilarious educational experience. He served in the Army and the National Guard. He married Sharon Kerns in 1959 and they divorced in 1979. The marriage produced four children: Elizabeth, Randy, and twins Terry and Carrie. He married Mary Ryman in 1979 and he adopted her two children, Matt and Marya, and they settled in Udall in 1981.
Once in Udall, Bill owned and operated B&M Heat, Air, and Electrical with his wife, Mary. They owned the business until their grandson Brandon Fentress took over. He was very active in community projects in the Udall area, such as "Christmas in July" / the 4th of July Celebration to raise money for the Udall Christmas Lights and other beautification projects such as raising money for and building "Lilly's Corner."
He loved to hunt, fish, play cards (especially Pitch), and hang out with friends and family. He especially loved and adored his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was affectionately known as "Grandpa Bill" due to his love of all the kids in the community and throughout the World. He was very proud of being called "Grandpa Bill" by the kids he knew.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William "Duke" Hilderbrand and Letha (Transue) Hilderbrand, his brother, Michael Hilderbrand, his grand-daughter Haley Hilderbrand, and his nephew Joshua Hilderbrand.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hilderbrand of Udall, daughter Elizabeth (Tom) Inman of Skiatook, Oklahoma, son Randy (Laura) Hilderbrand of Coffeyville, Ks, son Terry (Missy) Hilderbrand of Bartlett, Ks, daughter Carrie (Cory) Steinke of Colorado Springs, Co, son Matt (Patty) Hilderbrand of Kansas City, Mo, and daughter Marya (Eric) Allen of Udall, Ks and his brother Keith (Tammy) Hilderbrand of Altamont, Ks. He has three adopted in the heart children: Denis and Patti Grahem of Udall, Ks and Jennifer Passiglia of Winfield, Ks and one foster son, Jeff Miller of Fort Carson, Co. He proudly has 36 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving him are his first wife, Sharon Mann of Coffeyville, Ks and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins, of which, his niece Lori Zielinski of Leavenworth, Ks, tells everyone she is the "favorite."
Memorial services will be held at 10:00, on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Udall High School Auditorium under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. He will be interred at the Udall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bill Hilderbrand Memorial, c/o City of Udall, 110 S. Main, Udall, Ks 67146.
