William Franklin "Bill" Allred, 96, of Winfield, died Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Cumbernauld Village due to lingering effects of Covid-19.

Bill was born February 9, 1924 in Augusta, Kansas, he was the son of Floyd L. and Mabel E. (Taylor) Allred.  He lived at Haskins Camp near Augusta where his parents ran a general store for oil field workers.  They moved to Winfield when Bill was four years old and established the Firestone Tire dealership.  He attended school in Winfield and enjoyed playing on the summer baseball team.  He married Marie Hoyt on June 7, 1941 in Cassville, Missouri.  The couple made their home in Winfield.

Bill started working in Wichita at an aircraft parts manufacturing company during World War II.  In 1942, he joined the family business then known as Allred Tire and Brake Service.  The business evolved into Allred Implement and Pump Service to include sales of farm equipment for Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Hesston and Kubota.  Bill took on the role as primary salesman.  He retired in 1985 when the business closed.

Bill loved to watch the grandson's soccer games and to attend the Walnut Valley Festival.  He enjoyed fishing, traveling to visit friends and family, and watching football and basketball on TV.  He was always interested in electronics and wanted the newest gadget or TV.  In addition, Bill was a member of the Winfield Masonic Lodge #110 and received his 65-year pin in 2018.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son Richard in 1949 and his wife Marie in 2000.

He is survived by his son Gary and wife Pam of Winfield; two grandsons, Aaron Allred; Teddy Allred and wife Holly of Winfield; and his five great grandchildren.

Private family funeral services will be held at Miles Funeral Service on Friday, February 5, 2021.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  The service will be livestreamed so that all who wish may participate.  The link will be available on Miles Funeral Service's website.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service to the Cumbernauld Village Employee Fund or the Cowley County Humane Society.
