Waynona M. Jones, 98, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, September 23, 2016 at William Newton Hospital.
Born January 2, 1918 in Waynoka, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Harold and Della (Howell) Hodges. She was raised and received her education in Waynoka graduating from Waynoka High School in 1936. Following high school, Waynona moved to Topeka where she attended Cosmetology school. She worked as a beautician for a while before moving to Wichita in March of 1942 to work at Aero Parts as an inspector. She met Raymond H. Jones there and the couple was married on July 20, 1944 in Wichita. They made their first home in Wichita and moved to Winfield in 1962. Waynona worked as a Psychiatric Aide for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for 17 years. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on September 28, 1995.
Waynona was a member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed Jayhawk basketball, crossword puzzles, bird watching and the Kansas City Royals.

Her sons: Allan Jones and wife, Linda of Winfield; Walter Jones and wife, Linda of Newport News, VA;
Her daughters: Ramona Sweeten of Oklahoma City, OK; Deanna Denny and husband, Blair of Lincoln, NE; Barbara Miller and husband, Bob of Springdale, AR; Lynda Hartel and husband, Jeff of Dublin, OH;
Her grandchildren: Cheri, Scott, Amy, Angela, Greg, Gordon and Matthew;
Her 11 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, Waynona was preceded in death by her brother, Stuart and her grandsons, Jeff Miller and Darrell Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Waynona's name for the Waynoka Historical Society in Waynoka, Oklahoma. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
