Obituary

WAYNE A. SMITH, 94, of Winfield, Kansas passed away early Monday morning, July 1, 2013 at Cumbernauld Village.

Born January 17, 1919 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Charles and Beulah Smith. He was raised and received his education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School.

Wayne entered the United States Army in 1942 and proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was united in marriage to Cora Finuf on January 5, 1947 in Winfield. Cora preceded him in death in September 1965. Wayne married Nina Elizabeth Manahan Sentel on December 20, 1969 in Arkansas City. Nina preceded him in death on June 12, 2003.

Mr. Smith worked for Smith & Moon for several years before retiring. As a younger man, during his years at Smith & Moon and after retirement, he was a farmer, farming wheat and corn among other things.

He was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, horses, tinkering on the farm, but spending time with his family was above all.

His family includes:
His sons: Gerald Sentel and wife, Shirley of Yakima, WA; Richard Sentel and wife, Glenda of Bartlesville, OK;
His daughters: Ruth Tovar-Sawyer of Winfield; Pauline Kelly and husband, Patrick of Florida;
His daughter-in-law: Mary Anna Sentel of Tonkawa, OK;
His brothers: John Smith of Newkirk, OK; Gale Smith and wife, Betty of Arizona;
His 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wives, Wayne was preceded in death by his sons, Jerry Barrow and Roger Sentel, his daughter, Marcia Bolander, his brothers, Carl, Jim and Dean, and his sisters, Marjorie, Jean and Pauline.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Wayne's name for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
