Obituary

Wayne L. Grant, 94, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2012 at his home in Winfield.

Born March 12, 1918 in Udall, Kansas he was the son of Walter L. and Evalena (Graham) Grant. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1937. After school he went to work for AH Vincent Grocery Store where he remained for five years. He then joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in World War II. Wayne returned home to Winfield after his honorable discharge from the Army.

Wayne was united in marriage to Betty Crawford on August 23, 1943 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, where Wayne began working as a butcher for Higginbottoms Grocery Store. He remained there for over 17 years and then worked for Wood's Grocery Store and additional 13 years. In 1973 he went to work for Binney and Smith where he remained until retiring in 1984. Betty preceded him in death on January 26, 1979.

On May 8, 1982, he was married to Lucille Benjamin, and the couple resided in Winfield their entire marriage. Lucille preceded him in death on January 2, 1999.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the American Legion.

His family includes:
His son: Larry Grant of Arkansas City;
His stepson: Dennis Benjamin of Wichita;
His daughter: Shirley Spangler of Garden City;
His brother: Jack Grant of Winfield;
Numerous grandchildren and step grandchildren;
His companion of nine years extended family: Sons: Darrell Hotchkin and wife, Phyllis; Steve Hotchkin: Randy Hotchkin and family members including 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Grant was preceded in death by, his companion of nine years, Shirley Grant, a sister, Wanda Mills, and two brothers, Jim and Melvin Grant.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Saturday November 10, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Arkansas City, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening November 9, 2012 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Wayne's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral homes.
