Obituary

Wanda M. Hey, 71, of Moline, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, September 3, 2018 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

Born October 14, 1946 in Montgomery County, Kansas, she was the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Corle) Hey. She was raised and received her education in Elk County attending high school in Moline. After school Wanda married Gerald Cook. To this union 3 daughters were born. The couple later divorced.

Wanda worked various waitress jobs in Elk County and Cowley County. She also worked in several area nursing homes both as a cook and as a nurse's aid. Wanda later moved to Arkansas City for a time before making her home in Dexter. While in Dexter she worked as a cook for the school district and later as a nurse's aid at Grouse Valley Manor. While working at the school district she also worked as an office manager in the summers for a roofing company. She later moved to Texas for a short time working in the offices of several roofing companies. In 1992 she returned to Arkansas City, where she remained until 2013 when she returned to Moline. She loved to volunteer her time taking care of stray animals. She also enjoyed traveling, she especially enjoyed her trips to Germany and Texas.

Her family includes her daughters, Connie Vaden and fiancé Alan Bryant of Arkansas City; Barbara Stafford and husband, Greg of Katy, TX; Debra Tousley and husband, Ernest of Howard; her brother Merle Hey and wife, Connie of Moline; her sisters, Pearl Williams of Moline; Lena Ouellet of Longton; Linda High of Moline; her grandchildren, Jennifer Rhodes and husband Jarod of Ponca City, OK; Christian Vaden of Arkansas City; Timothy Keller of Canyon Lake, TX; her great grandchildren, Kaden, Bella, and Khalyssa; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents Wanda is preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Hey and William Hey, two sisters, Ethel Simpson and Bea Harrison, and two grandchildren, Nathanial and Alissa Russell.

Private family graveside services will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations in Wanda's name be made to the Chester Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
