Obituary

WALTER M. WILTSE, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, June 15, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born March 2, 1930 in Independence, Kansas, he was the son of Otto Wesley and Edna Myrtle (Green) Wiltse. He was raised and received his education in Independence.

Walter was united in marriage to Charlotte Ann Barrager on August 29, 1952 in Independence. The couple made their first home in Chanute. Mr. Wiltse joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He spend four years in the service and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

He worked for the Santa Fe Rail Road and the Winfield Police Department before joining the Kansas Highway Patrol He retired from the Patrol in 1986 as Captain of Purchasing. After retirement, he worked as an Investigator for SRS Legal Division. Mrs. Wiltse preceded him in death on June 11, 2014.

The Wiltse's were members of the Derby First Christian Church. He was also involved with the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Midian Temple, the Cowley County Shrine Club. The FBI National Academy and the Kansas Peace Officer Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting.

His family includes:
His sons: Mark Wiltse and wife, Cindy of O'Fallon, MO; Marty Wiltse and wife, Ronda of Derby; Monte Wiltse and wife, Maureen of Danbury, CT;
His grandchildren: Kristi Wiltse, Caleb Wiltse, Jeremy Wiltse, Reesa Wiltse, Rendi Fairley, Joshua Wiltse, Marin Wiltse, and Grace Wiltse; and
His great grandchildren: Brylee Wiltse and Daphne Fairley.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Walter was preceded in death by three brothers.

A Memorial service will be held for Walter and Charlotte on their anniversary date, August 29, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Countryside Christian Church in Wichita. Private family inurnment will take place at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A Memorial has been established in Walter's name for the Kansas Troopers Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
