Obituary

Walter Meyer, 86, of Winfield, Kansas , passed away Wednesday evening, December 30, 2015 at Winfield Senior Living Community.

Born November 16, 1929 east of Rock, Kansas, he was the son of Robert G. and Cora A. (McDaniel) Meyer. He was raised between Rock and Atlanta, and attended Richland Elementary School. In 1947, he graduated from Atlanta High School. After school, Walt worked several jobs, including Santa Fe Railroad, Weathers John Deere Tractor and Curtis Candy Company. Walt also sold real estate for John Brazil Auction and Realty.

Walt was united in marriage to Gay Daniels on February 11, 1954 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield, before moving two miles north of Wilmot where they started farming. They farmed for over 48 years, retiring in 2001. After retirement, the couple returned to Winfield.

He was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and served on the boards of Timber Creek Watershed, Richland Township and the Wilmot school board. He was also a member of the Cowley County Realtors Association. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and old western movies, especially ones starring John Wayne. Walt also enjoyed going to Dairy Queen and most of all, he enjoyed tinkering in his shop and spending time with his grandkids.

His daughter: Janet Magnusson and husband, Karl of Winfield;
His son: Roger Meyer and wife, Icel of Winfield;
His brother: Jack Meyer and wife, Catherine of Rock;
His grandchildren: Kristina Scott and husband, Andy of Goddard; Kelly Barrett and husband, Sam of Emporia; Jacob Magnusson of Milwaukee, WI; and Robbie and Rance Meyer of Winfield; and
His great grandchildren: Karaline and Cody Scott of Goddard; and Cora and Lucille Barrett of Emporia.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lamont, Eldon and Don Meyer and a great grandson, Leo Barrett.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in Walter's name for Prairie View United Methodist Church and Tisdale United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
