Wallace "Gary" Greer, 68, of Wichita, and former Winfield resident, passed away Friday morning, December 25, 2009 at the Robert J. Dole VA Hospital in Wichita.
Born October 03, 1941 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Raleigh and Eulalia (Wallace) Greer. He was the first of five children and was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1959. He then attended Southwestern College where he received his BA in Industrial Arts.
Gary joined the United States Air Force in August of 1965, and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. While enlisted he was stationed in Oregon, Washington, and Thailand. He was honorably discharged in January of 1969. Upon his return from service he attended both Kansas State University and Wichita State University majoring in Architectural Design. Gary worked for many years as a Draftsman for the Office of City Planning in East St. Louis, Illinois, and also worked for the Department of Corrections in Winfield, and in Jefferson City, Missouri. In 2006 he retired from the Cowley County Sheriffs Department.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Winfield, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign War, the NAACP, and the Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed Traveling, attending family reunions, caring for his pet dog and rabbit, and especially spending time with his family.

His sisters: Charlene "Joan" Baptista of El Dorado; Kimberly R. Greer-Duru of Wichita;
His son: Christopher A. Gardenhire of Wichita; and
A host of nephews and nieces.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday December 29. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., that evening.
Memorials have been established in Gary's name for the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
