Obituary

  1. W. Dennis King, 79, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon May 4, 2018 at his home.

Born November 2, 1938, in Fowler, Kansas, he was the son of Warren J. and Norvella (Ratzlaff) King. He was raised and received his education in Fowler and Hiatville, Kansas. Following school he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country for three years receiving an honorable discharge in September of 1959.

Dennis was united in marriage to Evelyn Chickadonz on March 11, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Chanute before moving to Wichita in 1963. In 1962 Dennis went to the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He then worked as a meat cutter in the Wichita area for a short time before joining the Wichita Fire Department in 1964. While working for the fire department he attended classes at Wichita State University where he earned an Associates Degree.He remained with the department for 20 years retiring in 1984. After retiring Dennis went to Ozark Christian College graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Bible Literature. He then began his life as a preacher going where the Lord called him, which included, Dadeville, Missouri; Diamond Grove, Missouri; Artesia, New Mexico; Kiowa, Kansas; and Atlanta, Kansas.

He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Atlanta. He enjoyed serving others and being part of his community. His shop was always open to those needing help. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, going to and working in auctions, and driving around town in his little orange Giz Wiz.

His family includes his wife Evelyn King of Atlanta; his son Warren J. King and wife, Tammy of Florissant, CO; his daughter Denise M. Sooter and husband, Darrell of Charleston, SC; his sisters Wanda King of Omaha, NE; Anna King of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and his six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Warren "Sonny" J. King.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday May 8, 2018 from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Dennis' name for the Atlanta Fire Department and for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
