Obituary

VIVIAN R. RHODD, 67, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, December 5, 2009 at her home.

Born on October 11, 1941 in Grove, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Braxton Jason and Dovie Lea (Hanna) Caudill. She received her early education in Grove and later attended Winfield Schools.

She was united in marriage to Max L.R. Rhodd on June 16, 1957 in Hutchinson, Kansas and the couple made their home in Winfield. Mr. Rhodd preceded her in death on December 17, 2005. In 1979, Vivian attended Wichita Area Practical Nursing School and graduated in 1980. She was employed as a LPN at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield. While at Good Samaritan she received the Employee of the Month Award. In 2001, Vivian received Caregiver of the Year, a high honor given by KAHSA-Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. She retired in early 2006 following 38 years of service. Following her retirement, she filled her time working with friends at Winfield Pharmacy and later Brookdale Inc.

Vivian was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Cherokee Nation. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, music, watching American Idol, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, traveling, and going to casinos.

Her daughters: Ronda Thomas and husband Jim of New Salem, KS; and Michele Sweeney and husband Mike of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Erica Rhodd, Colby Rhodd and wife Ellie, Timothy Rhodd, Monica Kelley and husband Tyson, Matthew Thomas, Justin Smith, Kyle Smith, Kathryn Rhodd and Noah Rhodd;
Her great-granddaughter: Lauren Rhea Kelley;
Her brothers: Leslie Caudill of Millsboro, DE; Darrell Caudill of Ponca City, OK; Vern Helms, Jr., of Davenport, OK;
Her sisters: Loyce Crow of Winfield, KS; Pamela Howell of Ponca City, OK; and
Her sister-in-law: Wanda Caudill of Winfield, KS.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Caudill and an infant sister.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment services for Vivian and Max will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, north of Arkansas City. Friends may sign a memorial book at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 and the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.
