Obituary

VIRGINIA L. WATT, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday morning, August 6, 2015 at Winfield Resthaven.

Born on November 16, 1926 in El Dorado, Kansas, she was the daughter of Cecil and Francis (Johnson) Nichols. She attended first through eighth grades at Darien country school and later graduated from Douglass High School. Virginia started teaching school when she was 17 years old. She had attended three months of college at Pittsburgh and was awarded an emergency degree to teach because of WWII. Virginia returned to college in the summers to earn her degree.

Virginia taught at five schools, including Darien, Rock, Akron, Sunnyside and Udall. She received the Master Teacher award when she retired from Udall in 1995.

She was united in marriage to Clyde Watt on September 29, 1946 in Rock, Kansas. The couple made their home north of Winfield where they farmed. She always had a large garden, and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables.

Virginia was a member of the Rock Christian Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She had been active in the Floral 4-H Club and the Royal Neighbors Club. In addition to her gardening, she enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and attending grandchildren's sporting and academic events.

Her daughers: Jennie Ireton and husband Robert, and Jan Witte and husband Steve all of Winfield, KS;
Her brother: Walt Nichols and wife Cheri of Winfield, KS;
Her sister: Betty Hoyt and husband Harley of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Cody Witte and wife Rebecca, Cade Witte and wife Karly, Colton Witte, Matthew Ireton and wife Lacey, Sandra Ireton and fiance Thomas Hoefer, Ashley Watt and Erin Watt; and
Her great-grandchildren: Layton & Logan Witte and Anakin Ireton.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 10, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 9, 2015 and the family will greet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Virginia's name for the Rock Christian Church and the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
