HELEN VIRGINIA PETERSON, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Born on June 5, 1915 in Lindsborg, Kansas, she was the daughter of Verner and Mabel (Ziettlow) Bloomberg. She was raised and received her education in Lindsborg and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1934.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Peterson in 1937 in Lindsborg. The couple made their home in McPherson and later Atlanta, Kansas. They moved to Winfield in 1943. Virginia began employment with Dr. McCanon in 1952 as a dental assistant and worked there until 1957. She then worked for Dr. Parsons until 1983. Raymond preceded her in death on December 23, 1945.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Virginia was also a member and past president of the Kansas Dental Assistants Association and had also served on the board for Meals on Wheels. Her hobbies included Boy Scouts, golfing and bowling.

Her daughter: Mary Jones and husband Darrell of Camano Island, WA;
Her sister: Donna Jean Nichols of Tulsa, OK;
Her grandson: Ric Jones and wife Cathy of Bothell, WA; and
Her great-grandson: Ethan.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Larry Peterson; and her brothers, Leslie and Lauren Bloomberg.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg.
Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Virginia's name for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
