Obituary

VIRGINIA L. "GINGER" McKINNEY, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 21, 2014 at Cumbernauld.

Born on August 6, 1926 in Neodesha, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harry and Edna (Linn) Kingston. She was raised and received her education in Neodesha and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1944. Ginger graduated from Independence Junior College with a teachers certificate and also attended Pittsburg State University.

She was united in marriage to Ray O. McKinney on May 23, 1943 in Neodesha, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Peru, Kansas where she was a homemaker. Ginger taught elementary school for 4 years in Wilson and Montgomery County. They also lived in Grenola, Kingman, Caney, Pratt and Atchison, Kansas. Mr. McKinney preceded her in death on May 8, 1995.

Ginger was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Eve's Club, and Chapter HK of P.E.O. She was a volunteer at the Snyder Clinic in Winfield. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, golfing and flowers, but her true passions were home and family.

Her family includes:
Her son: Steve McKinney and wife Diane of Winfield, KS;
Her daughters: Marcia Sanborn and husband John of Georgetown, TX; and Jan Booze of Hays, KS;
Her brother: Dick Kingston and wife Jean of Atchison, KS;
Her 6 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; and
Her 6 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 22, 2014. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Ginger's name for the First United Methodist Church/Music Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
