Virgil L. Jenkins, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, May 28, 2014 at his home.
Born November 7, 1926 in Winfield, Kansas he was the son of R.O. and Eva Mae (Wise) Jenkins. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. After school he proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Navy. After the war he received his honorable discharge and returned to Winfield. He then joined the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War.
Virgil married Roberta Jean Saltz on December 31, 1952. To this couple two children were born. The couple later divorced. Virgil was united in marriage to Nina "Pat" McBride on April 20, 1961. The couple made their home in Winfield where he began Virgil's Hair Fashion. He later began buying and selling antiques out of his home.
He enjoyed animals, playing card and dominos, fishing, and antiquing. He especially loved spending time with his family.

His daughters: Mimi Campbell and husband, Vance of Somerville, TX; Hilary Jenkins and partner, Becky Buetow of Winfield; Diana Jenkins of Burbank, CA;
His daughter-in-law: Monica Huckabey of Winfield;
His sister: Dorothy Parker of Bay Minette, AL;
His 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; and
His faithful dog Honey.
In addition to his parents and wife, Virgil was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Parkerson and two sisters, Lorrain and Nelda.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, June 7, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Military committal honors will follow at Wilmot Cemetery north of Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Virgil's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
