Vidae Willene
Crosser
July 23, 1933 – January 14, 2023
Vidae Willene Crosser, 89, longtime resident of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Born July 23, 1933, in Bardley, Missouri, she was the daughter of Ertie and Maggie "Thelma" (Tucker) Allen. Vidae was raised and received her education in Beechridge and Naylor, Missouri.
Vidae was united in marriage to John Allen Crosser, Sr. on July 13, 1953 in Rockford, Illinois, where the couple made their first home. Vidae and John were blessed with two children: John Allen, Jr. and Carolyn Darlene.
She held many jobs including, as a young woman, picking cotton in the fields of Missouri and picking fruit in California. Later she also worked at factories, including Sundstrand Aviation, where she met John, and a Crayola and a bubblegum factory. Vidae's children fondly remember trying to find the bubblegum ends that their mother had hidden after bringing them home from work.
The family moved to Winfield, where Vidae worked at William Newton Hospital and retired from the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She also cared for people and kept them company in the comfort of their home.
Vidae's Pentecostal faith was important to her. She attempted to live daily as the hands and feet of Jesus. She was healed of asthma in a church service and as a young woman, filled with the Holy Ghost. Her hobbies included feeding the birds and working in her yard. She could be found reading her Bible each day. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Arkansas City. Most of all, Vidae enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her son, John Crosser, Jr. of Winfield; daughter, Carolyn Roberts (Mark) of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Kami Donahue of San Diego, CA; Lindsay and Matthew Crosser, both of Winfield; Erika Roberts (Andy) of Nolensville, TN; Daniel Roberts (Whitney) of Sapulpa, OK; Anna Roberts of Altadena, CA; Nathan Roberts of Tulsa, OK; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Vivienne Roberts, both of Nolensville; Brighton, Wyatt, and Maren Roberts, all of Sapulpa, OK; brother, James Allen (Patricia) of Melbourne, FL; and sister, Doris Griffin of Boone, NC.
In addition to her parents, Vidae is preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Higgs; and brother, Charles Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 20, 2023, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Arkansas City under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Private interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will greet visitors beginning at 9 A.M. until service time.
A memorial has been established in Vidae's name for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
