Victor "Vic" Gurnee, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020 at South Central Kansas Medical Center.

Born September 10, 1926 in Rose Hill, Kansas, he was the son of John and Leona Desi (Bilyeu) Gurnee. He was raised and received his early education in Rose Hill before moving to Clever, Missouri to work with his Uncle Homer on the family farm. Vic later returned to Rose Hill where he worked as a young man for a local dairy.

Vic was united in marriage to Leona Elizabeth Sallee on November 1, 1944 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Vic went to work for Consolidated Flour Mill. After the closing of the mill, he began working at Hunter Milling Company which later became Cargill in Wellington. He worked for over 47 years in the flour mills, retiring as Elevator Superintendent at Cargill in 1993. Leona preceded him in death on November 19, 2008.

Vic was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, going to casinos, and Friday night card games with family.

His family includes his sons, Dennis Gurnee and wife, Sandra of Arkansas City; David Gurnee and wife, Katie of Columbus, OH; his brother Jack Gurnee and wife, Barbara of Hollowell; his son-in-law Walter Evans; and his 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren with one on the way.

In addition to his parents and wife, Vic was preceded in death by an infant son Clifford Gurnee, his daughter Janis Kay Evans, four brothers, Junior, Darl, Don, and Clifford, and two sisters, Maxine and Lorene.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed at www.milesfuneralservice.com. Private inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Vic's name for the Davita Dialysis Center in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
