VERNON LEROY OSBORN, 78, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 16, 2010 at the Dexter Care Center.
Born on February 22, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Leland and Thelma (Stout) Osborn. He was raised and received his education in Burden, Kansas, and graduated from Burden High School in 1950.
He was united in marriage on November 24, 1951 to Louise Smith in the Burden Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Burden and Leroy has farmed and raised cattle his entire life. Leroy was employed as a foreman for several construction companies including Jim Hensley Construction, McGee & Lewis, Shore and Sons, and Sherwood Construction of Oklahoma.
Leroy had attended Mt. Vernon Church and Burden Baptist Church. He served on the Watershed District Committee. He enjoyed welding, farming and tending to his cattle.
His family includes:
His wife of 58 years: Louise of the home;
His son: Jimmy Osborn and wife Jeleane of Grand Lake Town, OK;
His daughters: Janice King of Wichita, KS; and Katy Hiatt of Arkansas City, KS;
His grandchildren: Tyler and Heather Osborn, Tyson and Kendra Osborn, Tamara and Jake Schroeder, Chris and Ashley King, Tate and Beth Osborn, Barclay and Bret Shaffer, Jenna King and fiance'Travis L'Hommedieu, Brogan Hiatt, Chris Benest and Andrea Benest;
His great-grandchildren: Taven Ray Osborn, Brett Benest, Cash Schroeder and 2 great grandchildren to arrive later in the year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jimmy Hiatt; and his daughter-in-law, Marcia Osborn.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2010. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
Memorials have been established in Leroy's name for the Burden Baptist Church, Burden United Methodist Church, Hospice Care of Kansas and the Burden Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
