Vernon L. Baucom, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 23, 2019 at Winfield Rest Haven.
Born June 22, 1933 in Winfield, he was the son of Elmer and Emma (Anglemyer) Baucom. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. Following school, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War.
Vernon was united in marriage to Frances Shively on June 22, 1956 at the Burden United Methodist Church. Vernon worked as a baker for over 40 years, primarily at Rainbow Bakery, until retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, tinkering in the yard, and watching sports. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
His family includes his wife Frances Baucom of Winfield; his sons, Lesley Baucom of Arkansas City; Wesley Baucom and wife, Martha of Wellington; and Clay Baucom and wife, Sandy of Winfield; and his eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Kennedy and daughter Lisa Fouch.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Vernon's name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
