Verl Maxine Wesley, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, November 28, 2016 at William Newton Hospital.
She was born on March 14, 1921 in New Salem, Kansas. She was the daughter of Elias Anderson and Cora (Dicken) Workman. Verl was the youngest of 11 children. She had six sisters, Bula Englehardt, Peggy Green, Thelma Harris, Betty Holly, Marjie Babcock and Fern Walcher and four brothers, Howard Workman, Don Workman, Ernest Workman and Roy Workman who all preceded her in death. Verl attended grade school in the Floral community and later attended school in Wellington, Kansas.
Verl married Paul Cadwell in 1940 and lived on a farm southwest of Winfield for 42 years. Verl worked for Dillons for 18 years before retiring in 1983. Paul Cadwell preceded her in death in 1980. Verl married Paul Wesley in 1983. Paul Wesley preceded her in death on March 29, 2010.
Verl is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Brothers and husband, John of Burden, and Kathy Seaman and husband, Ken of Wichita. She had five grandchildren, Jamie Brothers and wife, Nicole of Lees Summit, Missouri, Kevin Seaman and wife, Tiffany of Olathe, Kansas, Kendra Seaman of New Haven, Connecticut, and her infant twin sister, Kamela Seaman (who preceded Verl in death), and Kimberly Biddle and husband, Chris of Winfield. Verl has seven great grandchildren, Keaton and Kenna Biddle of Winfield, Carson, Sawyer and Paisley Brothers of Lees Summitt, and Adelyn, Eleanor and Noah Seaman of Olathe, Kansas.
Verl was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and the hospital auxiliary for many years. She loved to read and play cards with her family and friends. One of her most joyous moments was at Christmas when she was given her first iPad which she enjoyed playing card games and looking at all her family's activities. She remained actively involved in her grandchildren and great grandchildren's music, sports and dance activities. She was a Jayhawk fan during basketball season and a Wildcats fan during football season. Verl and her husband, Paul Wesley, were awarded the CornerBank Cornerstone Award on July 28, 2006 for their many volunteer hours with Meals on Wheels and the hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery northwest of Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
Memorials have been established in Verl's name for the Tisdale United Methodist Church Gym Fund and for the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
