Verda Marie Laurance, 88, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, December 30, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born June 10, 1931 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Elmer L. and Hazel (Jones) Evinger. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City. Verda married Blaine Honeycutt, Sr. The couple lived in Wichita and Coffeyville before returning to Arkansas City. They were married 23 years before Blaine preceded her in death. She married JD Laurance and the couple made their home in Arkansas City. They moved to Winfield in 1982. Verda worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for over 30 years, retiring as a licensed mental health technician in 1993. JD preceded her in death in 2013.
Verda was a member of Central Baptist Church. She enjoyed ceramics and crossword puzzles, and loved to crochet and travel.
Her family includes her children Cynthia Foltz of Gentry, AR; Lurella Pate of Salina; Virgie Honeycutt of Highfill, AR; Sue Laurance of Talent, OR; Lauree Laurance of Ashland, OR; John Laurance III of Winfield; her granddaughter and caregiver, Shelly Russell of Winfield; 12 additional grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Verda was preceded in death by a son, Blaine Honeycutt, Jr., and sisters, Helen, Ethel, and Nina.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4. The family will greet friends during this time.
A memorial has been established in Verda's name for Central Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
