Obituary

VELMA M. PARISH, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, went home to be with her heavenly Father, Sunday morning, October 6, 2013 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Born on November 26, 1918 in Atlanta, Kansas she was the daughter of Winfield Scott and Una Mary (Cloud) Crowley. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta and later Burden, graduating from Burden High School in 1936.

Velma was united in marriage on April 18, 1937 to Ernest N. Parish in Douglass, Kansas. The couple moved to a farm outside of Cambridge, Kansas where she was a fulltime homemaker. Mr. Parish preceded her in death on May 6, 2008. Velma had resided at Good Samaritan Society since December 2012.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burden. She was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and other church activities until her early 80's. Velma's hobbies included cooking, sewing and flowers.

Her family includes:
Her son: William Scott Parish and wife Wanda of Bella Vista, AR;
Her daughters: Janet Steadman of Mulvane, KS; and Gwenda Lumbert of Winfield, KS;
Her grandchildren: Mark Steadman, Brent Lumbert, Bradley Parish, Bart Parish, Deann Setzkorn and Michael Ray;
Her great-grandchildren: Jason, Korbyn, Zackary, Kyler, Keaton, Tristan, Taylor, Teall, Lauren, Nicholas, Andrew, Halle, Ryan and Ella Marie; and
Her great-great-grandchild: Kylee and another one on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim Steadman; her brothers, Hershel and Buford Crowley; and her sister, Mildred Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Burden. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 8, 2013 and the family will greet friends during that time.

A memorial has been established in Velma's name the First Baptist Church in Burden. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
