Obituary

Velma "Ted" Potter Carter, 103, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, March 24, 2018 at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born July 10, 1914 in Hardy, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Charles and Cora (Golden) Otey. She attended school in Hardy and graduated from Newkirk High School.

She married Harry Potter on August 18, 1938 in Medford Oklahoma. They lived on a farm west of Maple City, Kansas. They had one daughter, Judy Brenner. Velma married Glenn Carter on June 28, 1976. They lived in Sedan, Kansas. Mr. Carter preceded her in death on October 18, 1987.

She is survived by:
Her daughter: Judy Brenner and husband, Bobbie of Dexter;
Her grandchildren: Brenda Smith and husband, Brian of Winfield; Lynda Brenner of Pittsburg; Rob Brenner of Dexter;
Her great-grandchild: Matthew Smith and wife, Jennifer of Wellington;
Her sister: Merle Jean Hefley of Plano, Texas;
Her great-great grandson: Cooper Smith; and
Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Davis, Ethel Boone and Hazel Boone, and a brother, Bill Otey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday March 29, 2018, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Velma's name for the Maple City Church and Alderbrook Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
