Obituary

Arthur "Vance" Day, 83, of Arkansas City, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, September 1, 2018 at his home.

Born January 18, 1935 in his family's home in Arkansas City, he was the son of Roy Vance and Blanche (Mosler) Day. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1953. Following high school, he began college at Cowley County Community College before transferring to Emporia State University, where he received his Bachelor Degree in Business. While going to school, Vance joined the National Guard, and proudly served for over 13 years.

Vance married Judith Weigand in 1957 in Emporia, Kansas. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. To this union, four children were born. The couple later divorced. Following college, Vance joined his father in business, operating Day's Western Store. When his father retired, he relocated the business north of Arkansas City. While running the business north of town, he also worked for a short time at Rodeo Meats, General Electric and Boeing. Eventually, he closed Day's Western Store to focus fulltime on Quality Motors, a car dealership he owned and operated. In 1989, he sold Quality Motors and began Midwest Building and Door Company, selling Wick Buildings. He owned and operated Midwest Building and Door Company for 29 years and had recently added Burrows Buildings.

Vance was united in marriage to Sandra Lynn Jordan on November 6, 1999 at the Wee Kirk Church south of Cedar Vale. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. November 6 of this year would have made 19 years of marriage.

He was a member of New Hope Fellowship Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a Patron member of the NRA. He was an avid pilot, motorcyclist, and enjoyed riding ATV's in Colorado. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and collecting antique cameras, watches, and cars. His passion was cars. He enjoyed going to auctions as well as buying and selling vehicles.

His family includes his wife Sandy of Arkansas City; his children, Richard "Andy" Day and wife, Kim of Bartlesville, OK; Joel Day and wife, Becky of Arkansas City; Katherine "Kelly" Stewart and husband, Terry of Wichita; his step-daughters, Jami Hobbs of Arkansas City; Brandi Turner and husband, Jay of Ponca City, OK; his sponsored daughter Catherine Fernandez of Bangalore, India; and his grandchildren, Alexandra Stewart, Sean Stewart, Caitlin Day, Rachel Johnson and husband, Jarrod, Elyssa Day, Jordan Day, Andrew Day, Madalyn Tapia, Jacob Hobbs, Jesse Hobbs, Payge Turner, Nash Turner, and Ruby Turner.

In addition to his parents, Vance was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Vance's name for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
