Valeta Joeen Sandborn, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, January 8, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born May 13, 1940 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of George E. and Cleo M. (Kadau) Hurley. She was raised and received her education in Dexter, Kansas, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1958.
She was united in marriage to Bob Sandborn in 1959. The couple traveled around while Bob was in the United State Air Force, being stationed in Alaska and Hawaii. To this union three daughters were born. The couple later divorced.
When Valeta returned to Kansas she moved to Burden and began working as an aide for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center, and remained there for over 32 years, retiring in 1998. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos, and playing cards with her family and friends.

Her daughters: Vickey Walker of Arkansas City; Marsha Cox and husband, Wes of Argonia; Ellen Roe and husband, Bill of Winfield;
Her sisters: Evelyn Wisneski of Redondo Beach, CA; Marilyn Varner of Wichita; and
Her 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Valeta was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Hopper and a grandson, Michael Sandborn-Lee.
Private family graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Valeta's name for Mosaic in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
