V. Ovella Beggs, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, May 24, 2012 at the Derby Health and Rehabilitation.
Born February 7, 1917 on a farm outside of Oxford, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred Clinton and Maude (Rice) Hawkins. She was raised and received her education in the Oxford area, graduating from Oxford High School.
Ovella was united in marriage to Richard Beggs in March of 1946 on the family farm in Oxford. The couple made their home in Oxford where they farmed for many years. In addition to dairy farming they owned and operated the Corner Café in Wellington. Mr. Beggs preceded her in death in 1967.
In the early 1980s, Ovella sold the family farm and moved to Winfield. She went to work for the Oxford Gas Company, and later began working for Cessna. She remained at Cessna working on wire harnesses for over 7 years before retiring. After retiring from Cessna she worked part time for Bones & Things and remained there for over 25 years.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed horseback riding, sewing, and spending time with friends and loved ones. She was known as an excellent seamstress.

Her grandchildren: Sonja Brown-McCall and husband, Jim of Derby; Cathy Spurlock and husband, Marty of Neodesha; Monica Estrada and husband, Mark of Garden City; Michelle Hobson and husband, Dan of McPherson; Marsha Wilson and husband, Troy of Hastings, NE; Amity Kessinger and husband, Joshua of Grenola; and
Her 16 great grandchildren and 2 ½ great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents Ovella was preceded in death by her son, Fred Beggs and grandson, Richard Beggs.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, May 29, 2012 from 5 to 8. The family will greet visitors that evening.
A memorial has been established in Ovella's name for Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
