Una "Yvonne" Newman, 75, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 06, 2010 at the William Newton Hospital.

Born December 31, 1934 in Great Bend, Kansas, she was the daughter of Carl A. and A. "Rosalind" (Smith) Almquist. She was raised and received her education in Wichita, graduating from Wichita East High School in 1952.

Yvonne was united in marriage to Bill J. Newman on April 06, 1952 in Wichita. The couple made their first home in Wichita and moved to Winfield, in 1962. Mrs. Newman was a homemaker that proudly stayed home to help in raising the couples children. In the early 1970's they purchased Brad's Magneto, an auto parts store in Winfield. The family ran the business for over a decade. Yvonne later worked for several area retailers.

Yvonne was an avid gardner, voracious reader and lover of things music, especially bluegrass-which forged many lifelong friendships for her. She loved collecting owl and santa figurines. Her family and friends were constantly amazed by her proficiency and adeptness at being an "I-pod, texting, and Facebooking Grandma". She also enjoyed playing online games with people from around the world. Her most deeply felt commitment was to her children, grand-children, and great grandchildren to whom she devoted her life.

Her daughter-in-law: Ann Newman of Edmonds, WA;
Her brother: Lorrell Almquist and wife, Virgnia of Smith Center;
Her sister: Carolee Bailey and husband Dennis of Scottsdale, AZ;
Her grandchildren: Josh Clifford of Wichita; Amy Lazelle of Winfield; Meagan Newman, Canon Rupple, Hannah Rupple, all of Woodway, WA; and
Her great-grandchildren: Sierra, Mark William, Piper, and Isabel.

In addition to her parents, Yvonne was preceded in death by her son, Michael R. Newman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 9, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private family inurnment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Yvonne's name for the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
