Travis Wayne Mitchell, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, June 8, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Born August 2, 1935, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Barton Fred and Eula (Dunn) Mitchell. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. After school he worked for several area businesses, before joining the United States Army National Guard in 1954. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard in January of 1957.
He was united in marriage to Lorene K. Terry on January 17, 1954 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, where Travis began working in layout at Smith and Moon Steel Company. He later became a Draftsman and remained with the company when it became Struthers Thermo Flood. He retired as a Chief Draftsman in 2000. Mrs. Mitchell preceded him in death on June 21, 2012.
He was baptized at Church of Christ in 1969. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music, and visiting with family.
His family includes his sons Forrest Mitchell and wife, Bernadine of Noble, OK; Bradley Mitchell of Winfield; his grandson Travis William Mitchell and wife, Rachel of Noble, OK; his great grandchildren Jentrey June Mitchell, Theodore William Mitchell, and Ralynne Kay Mitchell all of Noble, OK; and his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Travis was preceded in death by, a son, Ross Wellington Mitchell, and six siblings, Ross Dunn Mitchell, John Warren Mitchell, Barton Francis Mitchell, Beatrice Hamlin, Bernice Ivie, and Shirley Ann Madison.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, June 12, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Travis' name for the American Alzheimer Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
