TIMOTHY JOE SHEPHERD, 60, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 13, 2013 at William Newton Hospital.
Born May 24, 1952 in Winfield, he was the son of John F. and Mary E. (Griggs) Shepherd. He was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating Winfield High School in 1970. He joined the United States Navy and served during Vietnam as an Operation Specialist on the USS Coral Sea. Tim also served in the United States Army and the National Guard.
As a young man, he worked at Wheeler's IGA. After leaving the service, he worked for USD 465 as a custodian at South Vernon and Irving Elementary Schools from 1977 until his retirement in 1993.
Tim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. He enjoyed bowling, watching old movies, fishing, hunting, playing bingo and jigsaw puzzles.

His sister-in-law: Jan of San Mateo, CA;
His nephews: Scot Shepherd and wife, Maureen; Craig Shepherd all of San Mateo, CA; and Jeff Kindt and wife, Kelly of Burkburnett, TX;
His nieces: Dyan Shepherd of San Mateo, CA; Jennifer Dougherty and husband, David of Winfield; and Julie Tims and husband, Eric of Lenexa, KS; and
His 10 great nieces.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Shepherd.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Inurnment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established in Timothy's name for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
