"Tom" Ozbun
March 5, 1936 – September 7, 2020
Thomas Dean "Tom" Ozbun, 84, of Winfield, passed away Monday afternoon, September 7, 2020 at Winfield Senior Living.
Tom was born in Winfield, Kansas, on March 5, 1936 to Roy and Beulah (Thompson) Ozbun. He lived in Winfield most of his life, attending Winfield public schools. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield.
Thomas met and married Sylvia Clarice Sonntag at Trinity Lutheran Church on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956. The couple has lived their entire married life in Winfield. Thomas and Sylvia have been married for 64 years.
Mr. Ozbun worked at several body shops in the area until his health forced him to retire. He later worked for USD 465 as a custodian for a number of years before his retirement in 2002. Thomas was active as a Boy Scout leader in Troop 313 for many years. Additionally, he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Juvenile Intake and for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harry, Bill and James Ozbun, and one sister, Patricia Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Clarice Ozbun of Winfield; three sons, John Ozbun of Winfield; Paul Ozbun and wife, Jean, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; and Mark Ozbun and wife, Sue, of Portland, Oregon. Tom has four grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Bonita Hizar of Dodge City.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service from 6 to 7:30 P.M. on Friday evening, September 11, 2020. The family will greet visitors during that time.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Ozbun's name for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
