THOMAS DAVID SELBE, 63, of Wichita, Kansas passed away November 6, 2009 at his home.
Born October 14, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Darrel Zane and Donna (Anderson) Selbe. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School.
Tom served in the United States Army Reserve from 1965 to 1967. In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Italy and Germany. During his military career, he served as a military police and attended Linguistic school for Italian. Tom was on the Inspector General's Staff at Ft. Monroe, Virginia. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1975.
He was united in marriage to Jeanne Cottrell on December 10, 1971 in Arkansas City. To this union one daughter, Courtney was born. The couple later divorced.
Tom worked for the Ark City Police Department where he was a patrolman, and was Marshal of Oxford Police Department. He later worked at the Sedgwick County Detention Facility as a Detention Officer.
He enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars, playing chess and studying history. He was also an avid reader.

His daughter: Courtney Murphy and husband, Patrick of Oxford, KS;
His brother: Allan Darnall and wife, Pam of Arkansas City, KS;
His sister: Sherry Darnall of El Dorado, KS; and
His grandchildren: Austin David Sherman and Kerry Anne Murphy both of Oxford, KS.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father and his step-father, Merton Darnall.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
A Memorial has been established in Tom's name for the Arkansas City Police Department, K-9 Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
