Obituary

Thomas "Tommy" Putman, 89, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 26, 2022, at his home.

Born February 20, 1932 in Springfield, Missouri, he was the son of Franklin Housley and Marie (Tindell) Putman. He was raised and received his education in Willard, Missouri. Following school he started his career as a cowboy, at a neighbors farm. Tommy began working with and showing cattle, an occupation that would take him all over the country.

He was united in marriage to Sonja Shawn on April 25, 1964 in Purcell, Oklahoma. The family lived in many different places moving with Tommy's work, including Oklahoma, New York, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Missouri. In 1980 they moved to Atlanta, Kansas and Tommy worked for several area farms, and in 1999 they moved to their current home in Burden. He enjoyed watching football and rodeos, and smoking his pipe.

His family includes his wife Sonja Putman of Burden; his daughter Laquitha Bousson and husband, David of Arkansas City; his sons, Shawn Putman and wife, Shelley of Newkirk, OK; Prewitt Putman of Burden and fiance, Autumn Crawford of Winfield; his brother Jack Putman of Republic, MO; and his grandson Preston Putman.

In addition to his parents Tommy was preceded in death by a daughter Tanesa Sexton.

A memorial has been established in Tommy's name for the Hopeful Hearts Horse Camp. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Graveside funeral services have been rescheduled for 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City.
