Theora Rutherford, 90, of Winfield, passed away Sunday evening, June 15, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Village.
Born January 5, 1918 in Dexter, she was the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Stiener) Sowers. She was raised and received her education in the Dexter area.
Theora was united in marriage to Ray L. Rutherford in Winfield on March 28, 1937. She was a homemaker and spent her days caring for her four boys. In addition to raising her boys she also did alterations for several local businesses. She was a Boy Scout den mother, a 50 year member of the C.C. unit, a 26 year member of a quilting club, and past president of the UCT Lodge.
Theora's hobbies included knitting, sewing, and quilting.

Her husband of 71 years: Ray L. Rutherford of the home;
Her sons: Henry Rutherford and wife Mary of Winfield; Kenny Rutherford and wife Sandy of Winfield; Cecil Rutherford of Wichita;
Her brother: Ernie Sowers of Blackwell, OK;
Her 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren (with 3 on the way), and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Theora was preceded in death by her son Martin Rutherford, two sisters Nolene Dryden, and Florence Waldorf, and two grandchildren Sandy Marie (Edwards) Brill and Andrew Dale Edwards.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 9 P.M. the family will be there to greet visitors from 6 to 7 P.M..
A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Rutherford's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
