Obituary

THELMA M. BUCKMAN, 85, of Winfield, passed away Friday morning, May 15, 2009 at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born April 9, 1924 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Willis A. and Elsie (Thompson) Rowe. She was raised and educated in Winfield.

Thelma was united in marriage to George D. Buckman on April 6, 1939 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. She worked at Snyder Clinic for 13 years.

Mrs. Buckman was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She was also a member of the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers for many years. She and George began camping in 1969 and have traveled most of the United States.

Her family includes:
Her husband: George of Winfield;
Her children: Janet Buckman of Emporia; and Larry Buckman and wife, Rosa of Hutchinson;
Her brothers and sisters: Helen Doubrava of Garden City; Ronald Rowe of Wichita; and Bill Rowe of Great Bend;
Her 3 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her sisters, Lorene Bowlby and Sharie Richardson, her brothers, Earl Rowe and Merle Rowe, and one great grandson, Josh Buckman.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday morning, May 19, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established in Thelma's name for the American Alzheimer's Association and for the Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddler's and Pickers. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
