Tammy Helm, 61, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at her home.
Born May 10, 1962, in Bakersfield, California, she was the daughter of David Abner and Jeannie (Louden) Helm. She was raised and received her early education in Lawton, Oklahoma before moving to Anchorage, Alaska with her family during her high school years.
She married Leslie Anthony Lambert in 1978 in Anchorage. They were stationed at Fort Wainwright in Alaska. To this union, two children were born and the couple later divorced. Tammy moved to Arkansas City in the early 1980's to be near family. In 1986, she married Mike Gillock in Arkansas City. The couple had two children and later divorced. Tammy then lived in Abilene, Texas and later, Kansas City, Kansas. In 2011, she returned to Arkansas City to be near her children.
Tammy worked as a waitress and millwright. Her passion was her work caring for others as a CNA. She was a member of Ark City First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed coloring, shopping, going to thrift stores, and crafts. She was known for the beautiful wreaths she made.
Her family includes her children, Chad Lambert of Arkansas City; Kristina Marr and husband, Rocky of Arkansas City; Casey Gillock of Wichita; Kayla Gillock of Blackwell, OK; her siblings, Toni Lopez of Nashville, TN; William Helm and wife, Jewel of Wichita; John Lopez and wife, Roselda of Raytown, MO; her grandchildren, Dominique Marr, Toby Case, Colby Case, Collin Marr, Kiersta Marr, Jacob Gillock, Ayden Reed, Jesse Reed, Kye Russell, Piper Russell; and numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, Tammy was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Thrash and Karen Hurst.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Tammy's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
