Sylvia Clarice (Sonntag) Ozbun, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Winfield Senior Living.
Sylvia was born in Beaver, Oklahoma on July 20, 1936, to Arnold and Elfreida Sonntag. Her family resided in Texas during her early years. She attended school in Texas until she came to Winfield to attend St. John’s Academy. She met and married Thomas Dean Ozbun on April 1, 1956, and they resided their entire life in Winfield.
Sylvia worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, and receptionist for several firms in the area for forty years before her retirement. Sylvia was active in Bryant PTA, Cub Scout Pack 313, and Professional Business Women’s Organization, serving offices in each organization. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Juvenile Intake, Community Corrections, and William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. She embroidered several hundred tea towels for the hospital auxiliary. She was honored in 2020 for her work as Volunteer of the Year. She was also honored as a Lifetime member of the Presbyterian Woman Organization. She especially enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens.
Preceding her in death were her husband Thomas, son John, parents, and one sister Betty Warlick.
Survivors are sons, Paul and wife, Jean of Hastings, NE; Mark and wife Sue of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lennis Moore and husband, Bill of Grand Junction, MO; and Nancy Finley and husband, Rex of Winfield.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Sylvia’s name for William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
