Susan C. Speer, 80, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.

Born November 29, 1943, in Wichita, she was the daughter of Charles Feagins and Dorothy (Blake) Marshal.  She was raised and received her education in Wichita, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1961.

Susie was united in marriage to William Speer on Valentine's Day 1979 in Udall.  The couple made their first home on the family farm east of Winfield.  They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1979, and she opened Susie's Country Store, a gift and craft shop.  They relocated Susie's Country Store to Winfield in 1992 and made their home in Dexter.  In addition to her store, Susie worked at Boeing and Peabody Gordon & Piatt.  She also drove a school bus.  Bill preceded her in death on June 25, 2022.

Susie was a member of Dexter Christian Church.  She enjoyed doing crafts, embroidery, sewing, and acrylic painting.

Her family includes her son James Charles Short and wife, Angie of McKinney, TX; her daughters, Lisa Renee Pipkin of Wellington; Rachal Chambers and husband, Lin of Clearwater; her sisters, Renee McWhirt and husband, Daryl of Rock; Rebecca Thornley of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Connor Short, Corey Short, Garrett Graves, Dylan Graves, Dalton Chambers, Jordan Chambers, Kylinn Chambers, Jason Eaglin, Nichole Eaglin Forcum; her great grandchildren, Dustin, Sadie, Caden, Pax, Penelope, Nora, and Ivey; and her great great grandchild Lakelynn.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Dexter Christian Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.  Private interment will take place at Dexter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Susie's name for Dexter Christian Church.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
