Obituary

Susan Kessler Russell, 74, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Monday morning, September 12, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

Born September 10, 1948, in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Russell Arthur Doucette and Eileen Theresa Doucette. She was raised and received her education in Lynn. Sue was united in marriage to Dennis W. Russell on March 18, 1972 (Sue's father's birthday), at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynn, Massachusetts. Sue worked at the New England Tell and Tell in Lynn, Mass. In August 1972, Dennis and Sue moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked as a Supervisor for Southern Bell Phone Company. The family moved with Dennis' job to Hudson, New Hampshire, Independence, Kentucky, and Litchfield, New Hampshire. Dennis moved to Winfield, Kansas in 1996, transferring from Lynn, Mass. with General Electric Company, working as a Customer Support Manager in Strother Field and Winfield. Sue, Jeff, and Lisa joined Dennis in Winfield in 1997. Sue began working for Dillons in 1998. She worked in various capacities, including the bakery and produce, retiring in 2010. Dennis retired from GE July 31, 2010, with 29 plus years of service.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Holy Name Altar Society. She and Dennis enjoyed going to casinos and were VIP members at the Hard Rock Casino in Tulsa. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, feeding and watching birds, was an animal lover, and had a green thumb for plants. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Sue was a 21-year breast cancer survivor.

Her family includes her husband Dennis W. Russell of Winfield; her children, Lisa Eileen Hoeme and husband, Brad of Bel Aire; Jeff Dennis Russell and wife, Ashley of Valley Center; her granddaughters, Savannah Angell and Scarlett Faith Hoeme; her brother Russell J. Doucette and wife, Tiffany of Wichita; and her step uncle Johnny K. Pesky (player/coach for the Boston Red Sox).

The Rosary will be prayed on Sunday evening, September 18, 2022, at 7:00 P.M. at Holy Name Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday morning, September 19, 2022, at 10:00 A.M., at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Sue's name for Holy Name Catholic School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
