Susan L. Nettrouer, three days shy of 61, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Winfield Senior Living.

Born September 15, 1965, in Wellington, Kansas, she was the daughter of Arthur “Leroy” and Janet Lee (Bruhn) Wheeler. Her family moved to Winfield in 1972, where she would grow up and receive her education, graduating from Winfield High School in 1984. As a teenager and through college, Susan worked at Wheeler’s IGA. She attended Kansas State University, Southwestern College, and received her Master’s in Education from Baker University.

She was united in marriage to Stephen Nettrouer on March 21, 1987 and the couple made their home in the Dexter and Winfield areas. Susan worked for the Dexter School district for 25 years, teaching sixth grade. Steve preceded her in death on December 11, 2018.

She was an active member of Tisdale Methodist Church for many years, serving as a VBS teacher and youth pastor with Steve. She was artsy and crafty and loved Snoopy and Woodstock. She enjoyed tye-dye, Bluegrass, Southwestern and K-State Football, Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, playing games, and watching Saturday Night Live. Susan loved watching her boys and nephews play ball, and was a huge fan of Sonic slushes, Diet Dr. Pepper, and iced tea. She was always laughing and loved to talk to people.

Susan is survived by her sons, Roger Nettrouer and wife, Miranda of Arkansas City; Raymond Nettrouer of Wellington; Adam Nettrouer of Winfield; and Alex Nettrouer of Topeka; her sister Sharon McFarland and husband, Scott of Winfield; her grandchildren, Cailin Nettrouer, Anthony Patton, Ashton Bannister, Aiden Patton, and Anistyn Templeton; her nephews, Chad McFarland and wife, Holly of Olathe; Andy McFarland and wife, Kim of Manhattan; Luke Nettrouer and family; and Chris Nettrouer and family; and her great nephews, Jason, AJ, Chase, Josh, Derek, and Lucas.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Services are pending with Miles Funeral Service and will be announced at a later date.

Memorials have been established in Susan’s name for Winfield Senior Living and for the Dexter Community Improvement Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
